Suicide Awareness & Prevention Presentation
Monday, September 16, 2024 3:00–4:00 PM
- LocationStudent Services Building
- DescriptionSuicide is one of the leading causes of death in college-aged individuals. The severity of suicidal crisis and existence of stigma can limit one's ability to or comfortability in reaching out to campus resources. Similarly, many individuals want to support peers and loved ones in crisis but may not know when or how to help. Increasing awareness of the signs, symptoms, and statistics related to suicide can enable us to support both ourselves and our loved ones. This presentation aims to give an overview of the importance of suicide prevention, ways to identify signs of need, basic skillsets for supporting someone in a crisis, and resources available both on and off campus. This presentation can be a beneficial introduction or supplement to more in-depth gatekeeper presentations.
