The ceremony begins on the day of Silver Taps when the flag in front of the Academic Building is placed at half-staff. Notices are posted at the Memorial Student Center, Evans Library, and at the base of the flagpole in front of the Academic Building. At 10:15 p.m., chimes from the Albritton Bell Tower begin to play. The ceremony begins at 10:30 p.m. as the Ross Volunteers Firing Squad marches in slow cadence to the statue of Lawrence Sullivan Ross. Three volleys are fired. "Silver Taps" is played by six buglers three times – to the North, West, and South. This concludes the ceremony, but not the feelings of respect and honor. With respect, the ceremony of Silver Taps is dedicated to the deceased Aggie and is a solemn and serious event. Some important observances must be remembered:The area in front of the Sul Ross statue and the Academic Building is reserved for the friends and family of the deceased. Aggies do not stand or sit on the benches lining the walkway between the flagpole and the Sul Ross Statue. The darkness and quiet, which cover the campus, emphasize the mood for Silver Taps. Aggies help to retain this tranquility by covering windows, keeping noise to a minimum, and walking to and from the ceremony without talking. The name of the deceased Aggie is posted on the flagpole base during the day of Silver Taps.

Graduate and Professional Student Wine Tasting, sponsored by The Association of Former Students, Student Life, the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies is an annual event held in February at the Clayton W. Williams, Jr. Alumni Center in Flores Hall. Each year the event welcomes 250 graduate and professional students and provides them with the opportunity to learn about wine selection, taste the flavors of a highlighted vineyard, and socialize with other grads. Registration will open on January 21 to grad and professional students currently enrolled in levels G6, G7, G8 , M1-M4, or V1-V4. This event is known as the world's largest student-run game jam. Students from universities across the country will create video games from the ground up over a 48-hour period. Students can also interact with industry professionals who will be on hand to serve as mentors.

Invent for the Planet (IFTP) 2025 will tackle some of the world's biggest challenges such as environmental affairs, energy solutions and resource equity. Participate alongside universities worldwide as you dive into researching your chosen need statement, build a prototype, and on the final day, present to a panel of judges. Three teams from each local event are selected as winners with the opportunity to go on to compete for the world title! Registration is now closed.
