But the stories behind the art, like who made it, how it was made, who owned it, what it was made for and the inspiration behind it, all foster a greater appreciation for the work. These tales can offer the viewer a broader context for the work and can even provide insights into what was happening in the world when it was made or help explain why one piece is considered more important or valuable than another.The Forsyth Chronicles examines a wide range of items from our collections and shares some of the stories that make them special – from an artist who always tries to paint his two grandsons into his work to a painting documenting one of the Old West's most infamous tragedies. We invite you to take the time to peruse these chronicles that can inspire, surprise, perplex and amuse.
