Closed Through layered collage, Akarue explores how identity is shaped by memory, family and place. Drawing from her experience as the daughter of a Nigerian immigrant father and a white American mother, she weaves together photographs, architectural fragments and everyday imagery to examine urbanism, cultural inheritance and the histories embedded within the spaces we inhabit. Her work reveals how domestic interiors, neighborhoods, highways and family archives become landscapes of personal and collective memory. Bringing together works from across her artistic practice, Inherited Landscapes considers the lasting influence of the places and experiences we inherit. Akarue's collages transform fragments of the past into richly layered compositions that invite viewers to reflect on belonging, migration and the evolving relationship between memory and identity.
