- Jan 279:00 AMContours and Chaos: Studies in Form, Color, and MovementExhibition on Display: Jan. 14–March 8, 2026Gallery HoursTues.–Fri. 9 a.m.–8 p.m.; Sat.–Sun. Noon–6 p.m; Closed Mon.Contours and Chaos: Studies in Form, Color, and Movement explores abstract and non-representational works from the J. Wayne Stark Collection, highlighting artists' sustained engagement with the expressive possibilities of visual form. Since the mid-twentieth century, abstraction has served as a vital mode of artistic inquiry, offering new ways to challenge perception and expand how we understand the world. Rather than representing recognizable subjects, the works in this exhibition foreground line, shape, color, value, texture, and space as primary content. Through dynamic compositions and deliberate experimentation, artists investigate movement, emotion, and structure, inviting viewers to encounter art as an experience of visual rhythm and formal exploration rather than depiction.

The Eight included five realists: Everett Shinn, Robert Henri, John Sloan, William Glackens, and George Luks, and three other artists: Arthur B. Davies, Ernest Lawson, and Maurice Prendergast, who painted in a less realistic, more impressionistic style.
