Common Grounds - Generative AI and Its Implications for Higher Education

    Join Mr. Kegan Clark, Honors Academy Program Coordinator, for a session that provides a practical introduction to generative AI and its implications for higher education. Participants will explore commonly used AI tools, effective prompting strategies, and real-world applications for enhancing decision-making and operational effectiveness. The discussion will also address ethical considerations, including data privacy, bias, and responsible AI use. Designed for staff across diverse roles, this session provides insight into how AI can support individual, operational unit, and institutional goals.Mr. Kegan Clark is a Ph.D. student in Higher Education Administration at Texas A&M University and Program Coordinator for the Honors Academy first-year experience. He teaches UGST 181: Honors Family Meeting, focusing on personal, professional, and intellectual development, and UGST 311, which explores authenticity in the age of generative AI. Since 2023, Mr. Clark has integrated generative AI into his teaching, not only enhancing UGST 181's syllabus, lesson plans, and assignments, but also incorporating it into assignments for students. This is his second semester facilitating a faculty and staff learning community on AI literacy through the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and has presented on AI in education at the National Collegiate Honors Council Annual Conference in 2024. His campus presentations include sessions for theCTE's Hear from Peers (https://calendar.tamu.edu/cte/event/313053-hear-from-peers-navigating-ai-in-the-classroom)series,Human Resources' Managers Minutes Deep Divesand the Division of Student Affair's Student Learning Orientations.This will be a one-hour presentation before the USC Meeting. The series can be attended in person at the General Services Complex in Room 101A or via Zoom.
